Big Show Tonight..

So tonight we have a show at our local minor league ball park. New Wine is going to be playing a worship/jam session after the game tonight. These shows are always a test for me due to my need to look cool. I know there will be people there who aren't connected with a church or with Christ and It always makes me nervous that they will think we're weird or whatever. I guess I don't know which is right to worship like no one is watching or keep them more in mind by just playing good relevant music. It should be an interesting night. Ill let you know how it goes.

what do you think, worship like no one is looking or keep them in mind?

John Mayer Concert..

So I know you all have been expecting a post about the John Mayer concert so here it is. It was the most amazing "musical" experience I've had in a long time. I could not believe how much energy was in the amphitheater. To be honest going up to the concert I was pumped but it surpassed my expectations by a bajillion. (yea bajillion is a word) I sometimes stop and think why John Mayer is my favorite artist and I still haven't pinpointed it. He's not the best singer, not the best guitar player, nor the best songwriter. I think it might be his imperfections that turn me onto his music so much. I have watched him grow as a musician since his 1st Cd came out and he has progressed every year. I love it when "famous" musicians never get the attitude that they've made it. As a musician no one ever "makes it". That's the beautiful thing about it you can never get too good, you can never know your instrument too much. So anyway before I get on a ramble about music, yes the John Mayer concert will be a night I never forget.

YES!

My time of refreshing is finally here. As most of you know if there is one artist that I could probably call my favorite It would be John Mayer. Tonight my buddy blessed me with his DVD and it is nothing short of amazing. Every time I listen to John or watch him he gives me some fresh Ideas to take to my instrument. His creativity is absolutely amazing. The way he can take a song that he has played a thousand times and make it sound so unique everytime is awesome, not to mention Pino Palladino is a stud bass player. I recommend each and everyone of you go out and buy this. I promise you wont be disappointed.

1st Tri Show...

So the first Tri show was a success. Not really to me but to who it matters I guess it was. The curse of being a really picky musician tends to haunt me and my playing most of the time.

We learned a lot for being our first show. We went in a little short on songs, but we made it work with a few repeats and some random jams. I think that playing outside of the church is really going to help us in some areas of worship. In church the one thing you miss out on during worship is the opportunity to get creative or improvise during a song. You basically have to play with the vocabulary you already have. If you decide to experiment in the church you could cause a distraction and ruin someone's worship. We definitely have to be careful not to put too much time into it though, because the last thing we want to do is make worship band less important.

For the future:
I think we are going to start writing some stuff that expresses our faith w/out ruining our image. Bands like Paramore are doing that well and I think it is what christianity needs. Entertainment is not all bad and most of christian entertainment sucks! I believe Tri could really do something cool that extends our hands into the community a little bit w/out being blatant. "become all things to all people"

If you haven't heard us yet I encourage all to come to our next show at the TORCHLIGHT in East Moline.
